The New Student Conference is only required for students, however parents/family members who serve in primary support roles are encouraged to attend the New Student Conference. Texas A&M University believes that the college experience represents a collaboration involving the student, the family of the student and the University; therefore we invite family members to participate in the New Student Conference. Those who accompany students will have many opportunities to meet administrators, staff and student Orientation Leaders. By participating you will become informed about the University‚Äôs academic programs, policies, facilities and services.
Over time family members have requested enhanced services and increased programs during the New Student Conference. The only way we could provide these additional services without decreasing the services provided for students was to initiate a charge for families attending the conference. Registering for the conference increases our ability to educate family members and guests on services provided by the University.¬† Additionally we are able to provide our family members more substantial materials, such as a campus map and check-in bag, which have been requested.¬† The conference charge also covers a meal ¬†which previously was purchased ‚Äėa-la-carte‚Äô by guests.
Contact our office by phone at (979) 845-5826 to change your conference date as a family member.¬† If your student changes their conference date through the Applicant Information System (applicant.tamu.edu) it will NOT carry over to the family registration.
January NSCs: Early bird conference registration charge is $25 per adult guest (18+) and $10 per child guest (5-17 yrs old)¬†until four business days prior to the conference. Within four business days before the scheduled conference parents and families must utilize late or on-site registration, which will occur at $35 per adult guests and $10 per child guest.¬† Children under 5 years old are free and do not require registration.
Summer NSCs:¬†¬†Early bird conference registration charge is $25 per adult guest (18+) and $10 per child guest (5-17 yrs old) until 11:59pm on May 1.¬† From May 2¬†until four business days prior to the conference charges are $30 per adult guest and $10 per child. Past four business days before the scheduled conference parents and families must utilize late or on-site registration, which will occur at $35 per adult guests and $10 per child guest.¬† Children under 5 years old are free and do not require registration.
The registration charge covers materials for the conference, one meal, facilities costs and staffing during the conference. There is no charge for children under 5 years old. The registration charge does NOT include conference parking or housing.
No. We cannot reserve a space in a New Student Conference without payment. Online registration for a conference can only be accomplished by submission of payment. If your student qualified for and used a deferral, one family member per student is eligible for a waiver. Contact our office by phone at (979) 845-5826 BEFORE registering online if you believe you qualify.
If your student has qualified for and used a fee deferral with the Office of Admissions for New Student Conference fees, first make sure they have registered for a conference at least 24 hours prior to registering as family members and guests. Once you complete the online family registration form select the conference charge waiver button during payment; then contact New Student & Family Programs by phone at (979) 845-5826.¬† A past due payment will be listed on your account until you contact us by phone. One adult family member per student will have their charge waived; any additional family members will incur the conference charges as listed.
Conference charges can be paid with a credit or debit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover).
Contact our office by phone at (979) 845-5826 to cancel your registration and receive a refund. Full refunds will be provided until end of business on December 22 (for January NSCs) and May 1 (for Summer NSCs). A 50% refund will be provided up to 5 business days prior to your scheduled conference day 1. No refunds will be given for cancellations within 4 business days prior to your scheduled conference day 1.
We forgot to register before the deadline.¬† The system is closed, now what?
On-site registration is available for $35 per adult family member (18+) and $10 per child (5-17). When you arrive for Check-In we will register your family. Of course we HIGHLY SUGGEST you do everything you can to register online prior to the system closing for your respective conference.
Contact our office by phone at (979) 845-5826 to make edits to your registration form and receive a refund if needed.
When you register and pay to attend the conference you will receive a confirmation email within 3 business days.¬† This confirmation email will include your confirmed date.
Confirmation emails will be sent within 3 business days after submission and payment is received.¬† If you don‚Äôt receive an email within 3 business days please contact our office by phone at (979) 845-5826.
Additional Family Member FAQs:
Family members follow a “family schedule”.¬† They will join their students for several programs and will also participate in programs specifically designed for family members.¬† View our sample schedules (posted mid-December for January conferences and mid-March for Summer conferences).
Costs for housing are NOT included in the student or family member registration fee and arrangements must be made separately.¬† You may choose to stay on campus or off campus during your NSC.
The Department of Residence Life invites students, family members and friends to stay in on-campus conference housing.¬† For information about NSC Housing or to make your reservations online visit the Residence Life-NSC Housing website.¬† Questions may be directed to Residence Life Conference Services at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (979) 845-9381.¬†Housing costs will be billed to the student‚Äôs account after the student and his or her family has checked out of housing.
Conference Housing is NOT available for conferences occurring in January or August.

January Conferences:¬†Family T-Shirts and Class shirts (*limited quantities and sizes available) will be sold for $15.00 each (cash or check only) at New Student Conference Check-In.
Summer Freshman Conferences: Family T-Shirts and student Class T-shirts are sold for $15.00 (cash or check only) at each NSC Check-In, during Howdy Lunch, and during evening programs on¬†Day 1.¬†¬† Refer to the conference schedule for more specific times.
Summer Transfer Conferences: Family T-Shirts and Class shirts (*limited quantities and sizes available) will be sold for $15.00 each (cash or check only) at New Student Conference Check-In.
