Tips to be Successful at Your NSC

November 12, 2019 by Alex Hersperger

Congratulations on being accepted to Texas A&M University! Now that you’ve been admitted, it’s time to start preparing for your New Student Conference, the first official step in your journey to becoming an Aggie. Here are things you need to do before you head to Aggieland:

What to do prior to your conference:

      1. Confirm your New Student Conference Date: Log in to Applicant Information System using your NETID to confirm your date. Feel free to print the confirmation page and bring it to your NSC.
      2. Complete your AIS Checklist: Log in to the Applicant Information System using your NETID to see your AIS checklist. Use the checklist as a guide for what you still have left to accomplish.
      3. Complete online orientation: All new incoming students are required to complete the NSC Online Orientation prior to their NSC check-in. A registration hold will be placed on students’ accounts and will only be removed once the required orientation is fully complete. Information covered on Day 2 will be referenced throughout the NSC programs.
      4. Submit Required Immunization Information: All students under the age of 22 entering an institution of higher education institution are required by law to provide proof of vaccination against bacterial meningitis. Students who have not provided documentation of vaccination prior to their NSC will have a registration hold placed on their account.
      5. Take Care of Logistics: Your NSC registration fee includes one parking pass for your NSC. All vehicles must display a valid Texas A&M University permit even during the NSC (other than in visitor parking areas). Visit TAMU Parking for more info.
        • Helpful parking tips/reminders for your NSC:
          1. Print your NSC parking pass at home
          2. Once you arrive to campus, put your parking pass on your dashboard during the duration of your visit to Aggieland
          3. If you have any issues with the parking garage, press the “help” button on the machine at the gate. DO NOT pull a ticket.
      6. Lodging: Lodging for your NSC is not included in the conference registration fee, therefore arrangements must be made separately. To make overnight accommodations for on or off-campus, visit housing for more information
      7. Submit Photo for Aggie ID Card:
        1. Logon to MyAggieCard using your NetID and password
        2. Click on “Request New Student ID Card,” verify the information on the screen is correct. Then click “New 1st Time Aggie ID Card”
        3. Select the “Upload Photo” button, review the submission instructions and guidelines
        4. Complete your photo submission
        5. Wait to receive an email notifying if your photo was accepted or denied
        6. Pickup your ID card at your New Student Conference check-in
        7. For more information please visit MyAggieCard
      8. View Sample Schedule: Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the NSC schedule.
        • Freshman sample schedule
        • Transfer sample schedule

What to bring to your NSC:

      • Transcripts for all college work previously completed that have not already been sent to Texas A&M University (official transcripts must be in a sealed school envelope or sent directly from the institution to Texas A&M University for evaluation and transfer of credit). Unofficial transcripts can be used in advising sessions.
      •  Test results or scores for the Texas Success Initiative requirements, if not previously reported.
      •  Government issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.) to pick up your student ID card.
      • Casual, weather appropriate clothes and comfortable walking shoes.
      • Parking permit for use during your conference
