During your New Student Conference (NSC) you will attend programs that have been designed to provide you with information you need to make a successful transition to Texas A&M University.
Programs have also been created with your family members and guests in mind. Resources and services shared during these sessions allow participants to have information they need to be a resource for you as you transition to the University.
Below is an overview of our summer NSC schedule and programming. Due to limited time availability, some of these programs may not be offered during our January conferences.
Pre-Conference Day & Evening Social with the Orientation Leaders
We encourage you to arrive on the day prior to your NSC for the optional Pre-Conference Day. For example, if you are registered for the May 22-23 conference, your Pre-Conference Day will take place on May 21. Arriving early allows you to begin checking off many of the “to dos” that you must accomplish while on campus.
The Pre-Conference Day begins with an early Check-In in the afternoon where you will receive all of your orientation materials and have the opportunity to resolve remaining holds on your account. Once you have checked in, you may attend one of the optional sessions available that afternoon.
On the evening of Pre-Conference Day, our Orientation Leaders invite you and your family to join them for a casual come-and-go social.
Please note: There is no Pre-Conference Day for January conferences.
Conference Day 1
All students must officially check-in for their NSC on Day 1. Check-In begins at 8 a.m., and you will receive all of your orientation materials, your student ID card and a t-shirt. You will also have the opportunity to clear any remaining holds you may have on your account.
NSC programs will begin following Check-In, and all attendees will be together at that time. After a series of morning programs, students and family members/guests will attend separate sessions. Students will break out into small groups and participate in discussions and activities led by Orientation Leaders. Family members/guests will attend programs designed specifically for them to gain knowledge as a resource for their student in their transition to Texas A&M.
Lunch and dinner will be provided for all registered attendees during Day 1, and NSC programming is anticipated to end around 8 or 9 p.m.
Attendance is expected at all programs.
Conference Day 2
You will spend Day 2 of the NSC with your academic college. Students will attend meetings with representatives from your specific college who will discuss requirements and answer questions you have about your major. You will also meet in small groups with an academic advisor to help prepare you for registration.
Please note: Students in the College of Engineering and the College of Science (except for Biology majors) will be required to take the Math Placement Exam in person on Day 2 of the NSC.
In the afternoon, you will register for your fall classes and optional campus services. Academic advisors will be available to answer any questions you may have. Please be prepared to remain until 6 p.m., if necessary, to complete registration.
