Guests with Disabilities
Mobility Concerns
The NSC requires a significant amount of walking and navigating between campus buildings on a rather large campus. During the summer months, the weather is typically extremely hot and humid which can aggravate mobility conditions for some guests.
Please note that we are unable to provide personal assistive devices such as motor scooters, wheelchairs, crutches, etc., nor are we equipped to provide golf cart shuttle service between locations. Because there are significant distances between buildings used during the NSC, we suggest that guests with mobility impairments consider using a power scooter or manual wheelchair. Guests using a manual wheelchair should be aware that we are unable to provide assistance with pushing the wheelchair from place to place.
New Student & Family Programs is unable to provide mobility equipment; however, there are various local resources available from which equipment may be rented on a short-term basis.
Parking for Visitors with Disabilities
Visitors to the Texas A&M University campus are always welcome. Transportation Services has provided parking accommodations for visitors who have disabilities in locations listed on their Visitor Parking page. Payment is required, and the fee for parking in these areas is listed on the page as well as posted at the entrance to each parking facility. Other designated disabled parking spaces are for the exclusive use of vehicles displaying county-issued disabled hangtags or disabled license plates AND a valid Texas A&M University parking permit.
If parking is not available in one of the visitor areas or if special arrangements are needed, please call Transportation Services at (979) 862-7275 (PARK). University affiliates who park on campus are required to purchase a permit; therefore, we ask visitors to refrain from parking in areas designated for faculty, staff and students, unless prior arrangements are made through Transportation Services. Violators are subject to ticketing and/or towing.
For more information, please visit the Transportation Services website.
Disability Resources
Disability Resources interacts and collaborates with students, faculty and staff to promote an inclusive environment at Texas A&M University by educating the campus community and facilitating appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.
Students with documented disabilities including, but not limited to, mobility, hearing, visual, learning and/or mental health disabilities may be eligible for services and should submit an accommodation request form and supporting documentation of their disability to Disability Resources to begin the process to set up accommodations.
Representatives from Disability Resources are available to meet with students and family members during New Student Conferences. If eligible, you may arrange for accommodations during your conference by submitting documentation of your disability to Disability Resources at least two weeks prior to your NSC.
